MORE THAN ONE CABLE FAMILY

Data, control and specialist cable for life at sea.

Our marine range covers copper data, bus, control, coaxial and fibre optic cable, together with specialist designs for fire, temperature, offshore exposure and subsea use. HB Cables can review an existing part or start from your installation brief.

Properties and approvals vary by cable. We confirm the exact datasheet, classification evidence, length and availability before quoting.

PRODUCT DETAIL

Marine data cable: construction and performance.

Ethernet jackets and fire performance

Marine Ethernet selection covers both transmission category and installation behaviour. IEC 60092-350 construction requirements and IEC 60332-3-22 bunched-cable flame-spread testing are relevant checks for selected shipboard designs. Duplex data cables combine two network connections within one cable construction where routing space is limited.

Flame retardance and circuit integrity are different requirements. Selected Cat 6A fire-resistant data cables use thermoplastic insulation with mica fire barriers and are designed around IEC 60092-379. Confirm the required PH 180 performance against the cable and connection system.

Marine fibre optic cable

Optical options include polymer optical fibre (POF), polymer-clad fibre (PCF) and glass fibre. Fibre transmission avoids electromagnetic interference in the optical signal and is useful where electrical noise or potential differences complicate a copper link.

Selected marine constructions offer halogen-free materials, flexibility, seawater resistance, oil and mud resistance or fire integrity. Specify the fibre technology, wavelength, connector interface and route before asking for the relevant class documentation.

Bus and fieldbus references

PROFINET, PROFIBUS, CAN and AS-Interface support vessel automation. Fixed-installation and flexible designs have different mechanical requirements. Published references below are useful starting points for a technical enquiry.

Port, terminal and tunnel applications

Port cranes and terminal machinery can require reelable cable for repeated movement, together with data and power connections designed around mechanical load, saltwater and changing temperatures. Reel diameter, travel, speed and tensile load help define the construction.

For tunnel infrastructure, fire-resistant Cat 5, Cat 6, Cat 6A and Cat 7 data constructions and sprinkler cable are relevant options. Essential connections need the specified fire-integrity evidence, with moisture, vibration, corrosion and electromagnetic compatibility also considered.
